Description

Flamenco sin Fronteras (Flamenco without Borders) is an intimate and authentic flamenco show with international artists!

Flamenco is an ever present part of Spanish culture and Madrid is full of traditional shows. This one is a bit different, as we have a multicultural ensemble. The artists come from Scandinavia, Kenya, Japan and Spain. This might sound surprising, but flamenco has a large following all over the world, as different peoples are drawn to the art form. The flamenco scene in Madrid and Andalusía is full of foreign flamenco artists, leaving everything behind to pursue their love of this art.

'Flamenco sin Fronteras' is a showcase of this love for flamenco shared by the group with very different ethnic backgrounds.

Dancing we have Phyllis Akinyi, a Kenyan-Danish flamenca who left Scandinavia for Spain in 2007 just because of flamenco. She's performed in Madrid, Seville, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Rotterdam, London, and Berlin. Akinyi loves traditional flamenco but also enjoys fusioning it with other styles. She's created the Afro-flamenco fusion show named 'FlamencAfrica' as well as 'Nyar Kakan - I Contain Multitudes', a performance that fusions Scandinavian contemporary dance with East African ritual dance and flamenco.

With her she has Japanese singer Kei Ooka, who has more than 30 years experience with flamenco, 20 of which spent in Spain, and is currently the residence singer at flamenco Tablao Café Ziryab. Playing the guitar is Madrid born Rafael Salinero who has performed all over Madrid and accompanied some of the great flamenco artists in Madrid. He is a residence guitarist at the famous La Taranta. Last but not least we have Stephan Jarl on percussion. He is a Swedish musician who started playing flamenco in the late 90'es in Scandinavia and has been touring with the renowned flamenco dancer Selene Muñoz all over Europe as well as Moscow, Istanbul, and New York.

'Flamenco sin Fronteras' is a traditional flamenco show with a modern twist that gives the audience a close encounter with the art form in one of the most legendary flamenco places in the world, yet hidden from the public, Academia del baile flamenco Amor de Dios, located in the heart of Madrid on the second floor of Mercado Anton Martin.

There are only 35 seats available.

The show includes a glass of wine, a beer or a soda.

It starts at 18.00 and lasts an hour
